About the Event

The Black Sea Day 2026 Symposium will be held on 31 October 2026 at �ֲ��ý I.I. Mechnikov National University in a hybrid format (on-site and online).

The Symposium aims to bring together researchers from different fields to explore the Black Sea and the wider region from a broad range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives.

It welcomes research on Black Sea hydrology and oceanography, with a particular focus on marine and coastal processes, hydrodynamics, water resources, climate variability and change, environmental dynamics, and the functioning and resilience of aquatic ecosystems. Contributions addressing environmental monitoring, pollution, biodiversity, ecosystem services, and the sustainable management of the Black Sea are also encouraged.

The programme also provides a platform for interdisciplinary research on the wider dimensions of the Black Sea region, including its societies, history and cultural heritage, languages and literature, politics and international relations, law, economy, and other related topics.

Researchers, academics and experts from different fields are invited to submit papers presenting the results of their research.

Submission of Papers

Deadline: Papers should be submitted by 1 October 2026.
Length: The total length of the paper should be 3,000–7,000 characters including spaces.
Language: Papers must be written in English.
Email: Papers should be submitted to: inter.conf@onu.edu.ua.
Cost: Participation in the Symposium and electronic publication of the accepted papers are free of charge.

Paper Formatting Requirements

Papers should be submitted electronically in .doc or .docx format. The file should be named after the first author (main speaker), for example: Ivanov.docx.

Paper size: A4 (210 × 297 mm), portrait orientation.
Font: Times New Roman, 14 pt.
Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.
First-line indentation: 1 cm.
Line spacing: 1.0.
Automatic hyphenation: off.
Text alignment: justified.

Structure Guidelines:

1st line: title of the paper — CAPITAL LETTERS, bold, centred.
2nd line: full name, academic degree and academic title of the main speaker — bold italics; full names, academic degrees and academic titles of co-authors — italics.
3rd line: affiliation, including the full name of the institution.
4th line: blank.

On the 1st of February the international research project EU-CONEXUS ENABLES: Promoting excellence through innovative eco-systems (Project Nr. 101136822, funded by European Union in the frames of Horizon-Widera-2023-ACCESS-03-01 funding program), in which �ֲ��ý I.I. Mechnikov National University is a partner, has started.

The project was initiated within the framework of EU-CONEXUS Alliance. The goal of EU-CONEXUS Enables is to create a cutting-edge environment that fosters long-term collaborations between the Alliance and its partners, which include stakeholders and municipalities. The project aims to develop long-lasting solutions to the challenges of sustainable coastal cities (Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability – SMUCS) using the Digital Twin methodology. Key aspects of the project’s strategy are to promote effective knowledge sharing, pooling of resources and collaboration between all stakeholders.

The project provides opportunities for the development of skills of the involved researchers in a number of areas, such as networking, team building and management, fundraising and mobility. One of the priorities of the project is to help researchers successfully build their careers and focus on leadership development, well-being, social impact and career opportunities beyond academia. The EU-CONEXUS Stakeholder Academy will facilitate stakeholder engagement and networking, education and collaboration. Collaborative research aimed at addressing SmUCS challenges through a variety of programs, including postdoctoral mobility, microgrants, and funding for research work within the framework of PhD cotutelle, will be among the main activities.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine announced a competition of research and technical (experimental) projects of young scientists. Its implementation begins in 2023 and will be funded from the state budget.

The competition aims to engage teams of young scientists who work or study at universities or research institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science. The projects are expected to include those who meet the definition of young scientists provided in the Law of Ukraine "On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Activities" [https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/848-19#Text].

Deadline for project submission: October 24, 2023.

The results of the competition will be announced by December 22, 2023.

�ֲ��ý Mechnikov National University: holds the XVII International Summer School “Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Biomedicine”

From June 20 to July 12, 2022, �ֲ��ý Mechnikov National University holds the XVII International Summer School “Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Biomedicine”.

Within the Summer School framework from June 20 to June 25 a laboratory course“Cloning, Protein Expression and Purification” is planned, if possible. The number of participants is limited. Working language is English.

From June 27 to July 8 a lecture course will be held. Online platform — Zoom. The number of participants is not limited. Working language — English.

Information about Ilya Ilf -wiki

Ilya Ilf, pseudonym of Iehiel-Leyb Arnoldovich Faynzilberg (Russian: Илья Арнольдович Файнзильберг^[1]), (October 15 [O.S. October 3] 1897 in Odessa – April 13, 1937, Moscow), was a popular Soviet journalist and writer of Jewish origin who usually worked in collaboration with Yevgeni Petrov during the 1920s and 1930s. Their duo was known simply as Ilf and Petrov. Together they published two popular comedy novels The Twelve Chairs (1928) and The Little Golden Calf (1931), as well as a satirical book One-storied America (often translated as Little Golden America) that documented their journey through the United States between 1935 and 1936.

His father was a Jewish bank clerk. He graduated from a technical school in 1913 and held various positions, including time at the telephone company and a military plant. After the Revolution, he began working as a journalist, editing several humor magazines, and joined the Odessa Union of Poets.

In 1923, he relocated to Moscow and took employment at the newspaper Gudok [ru] (roughly "Beep", also a type of stringed instrument), a publication for railway workers. His contributions consisted mostly of satirical pieces. It was there that he met his writing partner, Petrov.

Ilf had been diagnosed with tuberculosis in the 1920s. He thought it was in remission, but he was diagnosed with it again during his trip to America, and he died not long after returning to Moscow.
