About the Event

The Black Sea Day 2026 Symposium will be held on 31 October 2026 at �ֲ��ý I.I. Mechnikov National University in a hybrid format (on-site and online).

The Symposium aims to bring together researchers from different fields to explore the Black Sea and the wider region from a broad range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives.

It welcomes research on Black Sea hydrology and oceanography, with a particular focus on marine and coastal processes, hydrodynamics, water resources, climate variability and change, environmental dynamics, and the functioning and resilience of aquatic ecosystems. Contributions addressing environmental monitoring, pollution, biodiversity, ecosystem services, and the sustainable management of the Black Sea are also encouraged.

The programme also provides a platform for interdisciplinary research on the wider dimensions of the Black Sea region, including its societies, history and cultural heritage, languages and literature, politics and international relations, law, economy, and other related topics.

Researchers, academics and experts from different fields are invited to submit papers presenting the results of their research.

Submission of Papers

Deadline: Papers should be submitted by 1 October 2026.
Length: The total length of the paper should be 3,000–7,000 characters including spaces.
Language: Papers must be written in English.
Email: Papers should be submitted to: inter.conf@onu.edu.ua.
Cost: Participation in the Symposium and electronic publication of the accepted papers are free of charge.

Paper Formatting Requirements

Papers should be submitted electronically in .doc or .docx format. The file should be named after the first author (main speaker), for example: Ivanov.docx.

Paper size: A4 (210 × 297 mm), portrait orientation.
Font: Times New Roman, 14 pt.
Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.
First-line indentation: 1 cm.
Line spacing: 1.0.
Automatic hyphenation: off.
Text alignment: justified.

Structure Guidelines:

1st line: title of the paper — CAPITAL LETTERS, bold, centred.
2nd line: full name, academic degree and academic title of the main speaker — bold italics; full names, academic degrees and academic titles of co-authors — italics.
3rd line: affiliation, including the full name of the institution.
4th line: blank.
5th line: The main text begins.

Heritage Futures Lab: Youth Co-Creating Cultural Landscapes

The project “Heritage Futures Lab: Youth Co-Creating Cultural Landscapes” brings together students and academic mentors from Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Poland to explore how cultural landscapes can be preserved and used sustainably in the face of contemporary challenges such as overtourism, minority heritage protection and pressure on historic environments.

The project is coordinated by �ֲ��ý I. I. Mechnikov National University in cooperation with the Oriental Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

Project implementation period: August–December 2026

The core activity of the project is an international youth mobility programme in Prague involving students aged 18–25 from the participating countries. Through field visits, workshops, discussions and collaborative teamwork, participants will exchange experiences and co-create practical ideas for sustainable cultural landscape initiatives in their local communities.

The programme includes:

interactive seminars and discussions with experts;
field exploration of Prague as a living cultural landscape;
study visits to cultural and natural heritage sites;
collaborative work in international teams within the Heritage Futures Lab;
preparation of a joint digital learning resource on cultural landscapes and heritage practices in Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Poland.

The project aims to strengthen cooperation between young people from the Visegrad region and Ukraine, encourage intercultural dialogue and support youth participation in cultural heritage and sustainability initiatives. The project will result in three team-based concepts for cultural landscape initiatives and an open digital learning resource presenting examples of heritage practices from Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Poland.

The Call-for-Students for the CLUVEX 5th Virtual Exchange Week (20-24 April 2026) is open now

Applications are now open for the final round of the Climate University for Virtual Exchanges (CLUVEX).

The Virtual Exchange (VE) is a great opportunity to experiment interacting in an international environment – especially if you have considered applying for a traditional student exchange. Participating in the VE Week does not require an advanced knowledge base in natural sciences. More important is to be interested in climate change-related issues and workshopping in an international team. The VE Week is open to students of all fields coming from EU and EU Neighbourhood countries to explore the latest scientific perspectives on climate change: from natural and social sciences to the arts.

During the VE Week, participants will collaborate in small international groups, engage in discussions and collaborate on a “Climate Horizon” exercise that focuses on imagining a brighter future. No advanced background in natural sciences is required – being interested in climate change and international teamwork is what matters most. The VE offers students a chance to experience global collaboration online and explore what studying in an international environment can be like. Students from all fields are welcome to apply.

New Partnership Agreement Signed Between ONU and Klaipėda University

On 17th February, 2026, a formal online meeting took place, at which the rector of the ONU, Vyacheslav Truba, and the rector of Klaipėda University, Artūras Razbadauskas, signed the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding. The memorandum outlines the main areas and principles of cooperation between the two institutions in the educational and scientific spheres.

Expanding academic mobility programs, intensifying scientific exchange, coordinating efforts within the framework of alliances of European universities, creating a basis for joint educational and scientific projects – all these opportunities are laid down in the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding. All these aspects are necessary to form a solid foundation for the future partnership between Klaipėda University and I. I. Mechnikov ONU.

�ֲ��ý I. I. Mechnikov National University Strengthens Cooperation with Lithuania

On 13th February, 2026, as part of the visit of the Ambassador of �ֲ��ý in Lithuania, Alvydas Medalinskas, to Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University, a meeting was held with the rector Vyacheslav Truba and the head of the international relations department Yurii Hrinchenko, during which the current state and prospects of cooperation with Lithuanian partners were discussed. With Alvydas Medalinskas’ assistance, an online meeting with the leadership of Klaipėda University was organized, headed by the rector Artūras Razbadauskas, and with the participation of the first vice-rector of ONU Maiia Nikolaeva and the vice-rector of ONU for international cooperation Andrii Smitiukh.

On the meeting the parties identified the priorities of the partnership, in particular, the conclusion of an agreement on academic mobility Erasmus +, the signing of a memorandum and the development of cooperation within the framework of EU-CONEXUS. The rectors also noted the positive results of the meeting and expressed hope for further intensification of mobility after the establishment of peace in Ukraine.

From the onset of the war, Russia launched an organized propaganda campaign aimed at shaping public opinion to justify its aggression, undermine Western support for Ukraine, and mislead both domestic and international audiences about the true causes and imperial nature of the war. The full-scale invasion underscores the growing significance of informational factors, proving that the power of words rivals tradiitional weapons. Hence, resisting Russia’s information offensive is a vital task for the survival of the Ukrainian nation.

2. The Center for Cultural and Institutional Research (KIU) at the European University Viadrina is announcing a call for research fellowships

Topic: "Infrastructure Fragmentation, Infrastructure Resilience: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Technopolitics and Crisis"

Researchers are invited to explore topics related to resilience, crisis management, and transformation in the fields of history, social sciences, science and technology studies, economics, media, law, cultural studies, conflict studies, and related disciplines.

Eligibility: Researchers who obtained their PhD at least two years ago.

A nine-month teaching assistantship in Ukrainian language at U.S. universities and colleges.

The competition is open to early-career teachers and young professionals under the age of 30, specializing in linguistics, Ukrainian literature, translation studies, communications, journalism, American studies, or teaching English as a foreign language.

Candidates must hold a Master's or Bachelor's degree at the time of the fellowship appointment.

Participants of the program receive:

A monthly stipend
Health insurance
Round-trip airfare
